About The Friends

The Friends of Pomperaug, Inc. was founded in 1998 by past and present Scouts and Scouters from Connecticut Yankee Council who were concerned that Camp Pomperaug, one of the council's five major camps would be closed and/or sold. The Friends were able to prevent the sale of the camp but the camp was closed for Scout use in 1998. The Friends remained dormant as an organization through 2009, when Connecticut Yankee Council reopened the camp for Scout use. In 2009, the Friends reorganized and began actively supporting the operation of Camp Pomperaug.

According to the by-laws, the "purpose of The Friends of Pomperaug, Inc. shall be to support the educational goals of the Boy Scouts of America through support of the maintenance, repair and improvement of Camp Pomperaug". Membership in the Friends is through annual dues and the operations is supported by a board of directors. The Friends supports the camp through a number of programs, including monthly mini work parties, two major work party, a campmaster corps, and summer picnic, and a fundraising dinner.
